It is with great pride and pleasure that I present this beautiful book by Éric Côté. Québec, moments d'éternité is a magnum opus, the culmination of more than forty years spent photographing his beloved Québec City.
I have known Éric since the early days of Camtec Photo / Leica Boutique. He is a quiet force of observation and hard work, a passionate practitioner of the humanist photography tradition. Though his day job has been in the moving image industry, his heart has always belonged to the still image.
Don't expect the familiar postcard views of the provincial capital. The touristy shots of architecture and historic streets of the old city. Éric has always been drawn instead to the complexity and beauty of human nature. For forty years he has walked for hours, first with his film Leica, then with a digital M, trying to take in and capture the rhythm of daily life in the streets of Québec City.
Respect, understanding and nonjudgemental is Éric’s modus operandi. The photographs that result are meaningful, real, and at times deeply poetic. They speak of joie de vivre, of belonging, and of community.
