Nikon have a long history when it comes to 20mm wide-angle lenses. It started back in 1959 with their Nikkor-O rangefinder 2.1cm f/4. In 1967 the first update was released as a 20mm f/3.5, over the years the lens went through different upgrades. Theis 1984 Nikkor 20mm f/2.8 AI-S  features Nikons CRC (close range correction) which maintains image quality at near-focusing distances. 20mm lenses have been a favorite by landscape photographers for decades.
