In terms of performance, the 35mm/1.2 Nokton Aspherical III lives up to the very high standards of its predecessor. Cosina has trimmed the weight, but the lens has an undeniable heft and presence. Close focusing has also been improved from 0.7 m to 0.5 m and the minimum aperture has been increased to f22. But the raison d'être of the 35mm/1.2 Nokton Aspherical III is low light performance. This is were it shines, delivering razor-sharp photographs with outstanding contrast at the widest apertures. Its short focusing throw makes it ideal for capturing fast action.

Cosina has emerged as an admired producer of top quality optics. Their rangefinder lenses are prime examples of applying modern design and production techniques to produce a lineup of unprecedented ingenuity and quality. From the 12mm Heliar to the 90mm Apo Lanthar, Voigtlander lenses have turned what was once considered impossible, into the routine. All the lenses have aperture indentations calibrated in 1/2-stop intervals, and all share pricing that is truly a bargain.
