This compact, lightweight 100-400mm super-telephoto zoom lens captures distant moments and expressions with outstanding clarity. ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass and aspherical elements minimize colour bleeding and other optical aberrations, while fast, precise autofocus and optical image stabilization allow you to capture active subjects with exceptional detail and impact, even when shooting handheld.
Super-Telephoto Performance in a Compact, Lightweight Design
Weighing just 654 g (23.1 oz.) and measuring only 78.2 mm (3-1/8 in.) in diameter by 164.5 mm (6-1/2 in.) in length, this 100-400mm zoom is remarkably portable for its class. It lets you fill the frame with distant wildlife, birds, sports, or expressive portraits, delivering the unique perspective only a super-telephoto lens can provide. For even greater reach, optional teleconverters extend the focal length up to 800 mm, or 1200 mm when used on an APS-C camera.

The advanced optical design incorporates:

Dual linear motors deliver fast, precise, and nearly silent autofocus that locks onto and tracks moving subjects with ease.
When paired with the Sony α9 III, the lens supports continuous shooting at up to 120 fps while maintaining full autofocus performance. Built-in optical image stabilization also works alongside compatible camera bodies to provide even greater stabilization, reducing camera shake for sharper handheld telephoto images.
Intuitive Controls for Fast Operation
Designed for efficient shooting in the field, the lens includes:
- Easily accessible focus hold button
- Customizable focus hold functions via the camera menu
- Combined focus mode and focus range limiter switch (AF FULL / AF ∞-3 m / MF)
- Zoom lock switch to prevent unwanted lens extension when carrying or pointing the lens downward
