The First GR Dedicated to Black and White
Designed exclusively for monochrome photography, the Ricoh GR IV Monochrome is a specialized version of the renowned fixed‑lens compact camera. It features a 25.7 MP APS-C sensor modified to capture only black-and-white images, without a color filter or low-pass filter, delivering enhanced sharpness, rich tonal gradations, and an extended sensitivity range from ISO 160 to 409,600.
This version stands out with a built-in, selectable red contrast filter, replacing the ND filter of the standard GR IV. It enhances outdoor contrasts, darkens blue skies, and brightens skin tones. Two new Image Control modes optimized for monochrome are available: Solid, with a sharp, high-contrast look, and Grainy, with pronounced grain reminiscent of silver prints.
The GR IV Monochrome adopts an all-matte black exterior design, with monochrome details and white illumination on the power button. It retains the 28mm f/2.8 equivalent lens, now redesigned with a more compact and sharper optical formula, including aspherical, HR, and low-dispersion elements. Cropping modes for 35mm and 50mm, as well as a dedicated macro mode, complete the optics.
The new GR ENGINE 7 processor, combined with the BSI CMOS sensor, improves low-light performance, speeds up start-up (0.6 s), autofocus, and allows 14-bit JPEG and DNG recording. The AF is faster and more accurate, featuring face and eye detection, subject tracking, and Full Press Snap, ideal for street photography.
A 5-axis stabilization system compensates up to 6 stops, significantly enhancing handheld shooting. The camera offers an electronic shutter up to 1/16,000 s, new exposure modes (Program Auto Ex, Distance Priority Snap), an unlimited multiple exposure mode, various metering options including highlight-weighted, and Full HD video recording up to 60p.
The magnesium alloy body is slimmer, retains its light weight, and houses a DB-120 battery offering approximately 250 shots, 53 GB of internal memory, a microSD slot, and a USB-C port for charging and transfer. The 3.0″ rear touchscreen features an anti-reflective coating and automatic brightness adjustment.
Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity work with the new GR WORLD app, enabling file transfer, remote shooting, and location data addition. Optional accessories are available, including a compact external flash, a 28mm optical viewfinder, and adapters for filters and wide-angle converters.
