Description
The Panasonic LUMIX S 20mm f/2.5 is a compact wide angle lens designed for full frame L mount mirrorless cameras, built to support photographers in a daily, spontaneous, and lightweight practice. With a 20mm focal length, it offers an ultra wide angle perspective that's both dramatic and practical, suited to sweeping landscapes as well as tight urban scenes where there's no room to step back.
Its maximum aperture of f/2.5 allows shooting in low light conditions (indoors, evening street scenes, nighttime settings) while producing pleasant background blur and nice subject separation, an uncommon result for a wide angle lens of this size.
A minimum focusing distance of just 0.18 m allows for surprisingly close shots, with a strong sense of depth and natural bokeh, considerably broadening the lens's creative range beyond simple landscape use.
Measuring about 40.9 mm long and weighing just 142 g, it shares the exact same size, filter diameter (62 mm), and design language as the LUMIX S 18-40mm f/4.5-6.3 and S 40mm f/2, forming a cohesive system that's easy to carry every day. The build is weather sealed, dust and splash resistant, and rated to function down to -10°C, while a fluorine coating on the front element makes it easy to wipe away fingerprints or smudges, a welcome feature for on the go shooting.
On the ergonomics side, the lens features a customizable focus ring whose rotation direction and behavior (linear or non linear) can be adjusted, along with a function button on the barrel that can serve as a focus lock or be reassigned to suit the user's needs, provided it's paired with a compatible LUMIX camera body. The Crop Zoom function also lets you, when paired with a compatible camera body, simulate a tighter framing equivalent to 40mm in 35mm format without switching lenses, all while maintaining good image quality.
