The Nikon PC-NIKKOR 28mm f/4 is a legendary, all-manual perspective control (shift) lens. Launched in 1975, it was the world's first shift lens for 35mm SLR cameras, designed to correct perspective distortion in architectural and commercial photography
- Pure Mechanical Experience: This is a fully manual lens with no electronic contacts. It does not support autofocus, and the aperture is not automatic; you must compose and focus wide open, then manually stop down to your chosen aperture for metering and shooting
- Legendary Build Quality: It features a robust, all-metal construction typical of NIKKOR lenses from this era, offering a very solid and precise feel
- Innovative Design: The lens can be rotated 360° and locks into place at 30° intervals, allowing the shift movement to be oriented in any direction—up, down, or sideways—for versatile perspective control
The PC-NIKKOR 28mm f/4 is not just a lens; it's a piece of photographic history. It offers a unique, hands-on way to achieve professional perspective control. However, it is a niche tool that requires patience, manual technique, and a solid tripod to get the best results. It works best on Nikon's manual-focus (F-mount) film cameras and can be adapted to mirrorless digital cameras (like Nikon Z or Sony E) with a simple mechanical adapter
