Description
The Vario-Elmar-SL 100-400 f/5-6.3 is the longest and widest-ranging zoom of the SL-System, a compact, lightweight super-telephoto for nature, wildlife, sports and action. Despite its 400 mm reach it weighs about 1.48 kg, and its telescoping design keeps it compact at 198 mm when retracted.
Its optical system comprises twenty-two elements in sixteen groups with a nine-blade diaphragm; a single lightweight focusing element delivers fast, silent autofocus, focusing to 1.1 m at 100 mm and 1.59 m at 400 mm (about 1:4.1 at 400 mm). Built-in multi-axis optical image stabilisation gives up to four stops, rising to about six stops combined with in-body stabilisation.
An ARCA-SWISS compatible, removable tripod foot, all-metal weather-sealed construction and AquaDura coatings round out the design; like the other SL zooms it uses the E82 filter size. The Extender L 1.4x extends the range to 140-560 mm.
