Produced between 1966 and 1976, the Leica MDa is the technical version of the M4. This model leave Leica’s production line in 1974.
Based on the M4 design, it keeps the M2’s film advance lever while losing the viewfinder and self-timer. Built for professional use in laboratories and other environments where reliability is critical, the MDa earned its reputation as the most robust Leica camera ever made by Leica.
Today, the MDa is making a comeback in street photography. Paired with the Elmarit 24mm f2.8 lens and external viewfinder, this setup shines when doing zone focusing or hyperfocal shooting. Note that the Elmarit has a scratch on the front element, which does not affect image quality in any way.
