Description
Fred Herzog: A Colour Legacy is a vibrant celebration of one of the most influential pioneers in colour street photography. Herzog, who immigrated from Germany and made Vancouver his home in 1953, spent decades quietly documenting the city’s changing face. He also traveled extensively with his camera through the United States, Mexico, Italy, Barbados among others. This exhibition and accompanying publication presents never-before-seen images from the artist’s estate, thoughtfully selected by his gallerist and friend, Andy Sylvester, offering an exciting expansion of Herzog’s colour legacy.
Fred Herzog (1930-2019), who grew up in Stuttgart, Germany, immigrated to Vancover, Canada, in 1953, where he initially worked as a medical photographer. He later taught at the University of British Columbia and Simon Fraser University. He has had major solo exhibitions in Berlin, New York, Paris, Toronto, and Vancover.
